Out of the Box // Roshni Anwar

It has been instilled in our brains that choosing a `career’ is the ultimate aim of our lives and since then, we are told to mold ourselves in the standards of society that comes in the shape of engineers, doctors,  army officers or a business men and for the rest of our lives, we strive for becoming the perfect dummy to be presented in the society.  We are told that there are certain limits and boundaries; to which we have to confine ourselves, we never try to climb out of the box and dodge our ways in that confined boundary and remain inside of it. Our ambitions are detained in the cage of `success-dreams’. We then devote ourselves completely to aspire, the ultimate end – Aim -, as if there is a bridge of struggles and at the end of the bridge, there is pot of gold, who-so-ever cross it, will be its owner. We endeavor to cross that bridge by walking and focusing ahead not looking here and there, and in the middle; all we forget is to see the beautiful surroundings. This is our life these days.

My mum asked me once, “What is your aim of your life”? I, without thinking for a moment replied, `a doctor’! She passed a sarcastic smile and said a Doctor? But there are millions of doctors in this world already, what difference would it make to have one more in the list? She continued further by saying, this life is not your life but a keep-safe and one day that will go back to its owner, don’t you think there must be other aim’s of it, a greater vision? These words not only hit my nerve but also change my entire perception of life and its aims, life’s aim is not just becoming a successful person but it is making a difference by being successful, we therefore must not “aim” aimlessly.

Remember, there is a seed-idea growing inside you; about your infinite capabilities and infinite potentials that is neither given by your parents nor it is a result of societal fantasies but you got it directly from the source which reminds you always that you are here on a purpose and with a purpose. That purpose or that aim determines what difference you would make on this planet. No matter, how big or small that difference is, it will provide a meaning to your meaning-less life, it could make you immortal, in someone’s heart in someone’s memory. The difference you’ll create might not shake the world but it could be baby step, it could make someone’s day, it could change someone’s life. In your way towards your aim, you will find some hurdles, some distractions and some criticism but remember you will always have to face criticism, which in its onslaught is like an interminable war: it shows no sign of ending. As long as you shine, give, produce, and have an effect on others, then disapproval and condemnation will be your lot in life.

Until you escape from people by finding a tunnel in the ground or a ladder leading to the sky, they will not desist from censuring you. From finding fault in your character, for that reason, as long as you are from the denizens of earth. Expect to be hurt, to be insulted, and to be criticized. And here is something you should contemplate: a person sitting on the ground does not fall, and people do not kick a dead dog. Therefore their anger toward you can be attributed to you surpassing them in righteousness, knowledge, manners, or wealth. So remain firm and patient when facing their insult and criticism because their disapproval of you only increases you in worth and merit and just focus on your vision, your goal, think out of the box and break the chains, you must not aim to aspire for making a living but making a difference in the world whether it be small or big, whether it be by serving, by showing or sharing love because this is what life is. Your aim should be to live your life to the fullest.
